Frequently Asked Questions

We listed our most frequently asked questions below. We tried to include as much information as possible!

If you still have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Do you require a deposit at the time of booking?

At the time of booking, a 50% deposit is required to confirm all reservations. This deposit is fully refundable if cancellation is made 60 days prior to your arrival. If cancellation is made between 30-60 days of your arrival, you will be reimbursed 50% of your deposit.

When is the final payment due?

Your 50% balance is due 30 days prior to your arrival. If cancellation is made after this, full credit will be given towards a future stay with us.

What is included in the meal plans?

Meal plans are inclusive of tea/coffee, juices, and water. Dessert is included with all dinners.
We source fresh seafood from the local fishermen and lionfish fillet from Tobacco Caye Marine Station (when available). Our meals are mainly seafood, except for Sundays when we serve traditional Belize Sunday Dinner- coconut rice and beans, baked chicken, and potato salad. Seafood such as lobster and conch are served during open seasons only.

What are the times for meals?

Breakfast- 8 AM, Lunch- 12:00 PM, Dinner- 6:30 PM

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Our chefs are very accommodating to special dietary restrictions. Upon making your reservation, you can specify if you have food allergies or if you are vegetarian, vegan, or pescatarian, etc. If your children are picky eaters, let our chefs know and they’ll prepare something special for them.

Do you have Wi-Fi? How strong is the signal?

Limited Wi-Fi is available on site. The signal is strong enough to make WhatsApp video calls to contact your family. We recommend that you download your music, videos, movies, books, etc. that you’ll want to use while staying with us. Due to our offshore location, the Wi-Fi has limited data bundles for the month and we would appreciate your assistance with limiting your streaming.

Where exactly is The Windward Lodge on Tobacco Caye?

The property encompasses roughly a quarter of the island, extending totally from one east to west. We are bordered to the north by Tobacco Caye Paradise and to the south by other privately owned properties. You can see our welcome signs to the north of our property and mark our borderline by our roped fenced to the south.

Are there bugs on the island?

On calm days, there are a few mosquitos or sand fleas. However, all rooms have screens to block out the bugs. We also have fly repellent available at the office. We spray our property bi-annually to eliminate bugs.

Do you recommend getting travel insurance?

We highly encourage guests to purchase travel insurance should unforeseen situations arise that might cause their trip to be cancelled. The Windward Lodge does not take responsibility for cancelled or partially cancelled reservations due to illness, accidents, flight cancellations, or natural disasters such as heavy rains, flooding, storms, and hurricanes. Please ensure your travel insurance covers all these possible eventualities.
Whenever possible, The Windward Lodge will work with you to arrange future dates for your trip.

Is there drinking water on the island?

We provide purified drinking water to our guests. We encourage you to bring along your refillable water bottles. You can refill your water bottles in the dining area.

Are pets allowed?

We are pet friendly. However, please note that we have 3 dogs on site. They are usually ready to welcome new friends to their home.

Do you provide soap, shampoo, conditioner?

We sure do! Each cabana is equipped with mini body soap, shampoo, and conditioner.

Do you provide beach towels?

Upon check in, you’ll find beach towels in your room. The housekeeping team will refresh your bath towels and beach towels daily or upon your request.

Can I plug in appliances?

We use 85% solar power and have an eco-friendly butane generator, which is used only when needed. When staying with us, you can play your part in helping the environment by reducing your power consumption. Unfortunately, we do not generate enough electricity to allow the use of heavy appliances such as hair dryers, irons, air conditioning, etc. Therefore, please refrain from plugging these items in.
